House in Kos

This is a two storey house in a remote location of Kos island. There are 3 volumes: The big volume which includes in the ground floor, the kitchen and the living room (double height), and in the first floor the master bedroom with its bathroom. The volume in the middle includes the entrance and the staircase. The third volume includes 2 children bedrooms and a bath, and a terrace on top. The way the volumes are interconnected creates a courtyard partly protected from wind, whereas the kid’s bedrooms open up towards their own outdoor area.

The exterior is white render, the doors and windows are made of timber, and the external areas are paved with stone. The external retaining walls are solid stone with concealed mortar technique

Simple construction techniques are used throughout the building with great attention in order to achieve a good energy behaviour. The external walls are 30 cm thick brick blocks and the thermal insulation is external.
